“Finding God in the Midst of the City” is the theme of our fall stewardship appeal. This theme comes from Psalm 46. As the world was changing all around God’s people, the psalmist reminded them to not fear, but rather to trust that “God is in the midst of the city” (Psalm 46:5).

Whenever I come to church these days, I’m reminded that our city is changing. More cranes and construction detours seem to appear each day. I find myself wondering: What does it mean for us to be a downtown church in Rochester today? How do we equip faithful Christians for a changing world? How do we pass on faith to our children? Perhaps now more than ever before, we have opportunities to build bridges of understanding and peace, to reach out with compassion, and to share the hope of Jesus.

In the weeks ahead you will be hearing more about our exciting ministry plans for 2019. Newsletter articles, Life of Zumbro inserts, mission moments during worship, letters, and a brochure will inform you of our congregation’s goals for next year.

This year, you will be asked by letter to consider increasing your giving. Please pray about this request and the ways your generosity can work through Zumbro to make a difference in the world.

We are asking every member to complete and return a statement of intent (in the past we’ve called them pledge cards) during worship on Wednesday, Oct. 24, or Sunday, Oct. 28. Please be on the lookout for more information in your mailbox.

Zumbro is a strong congregation because of your incredible generosity. I am continually amazed at what we are able to do together.

Thank you for all the ways you give,
