|Several teams of congregation members have worked via video conference to make final decisions on designs for the Sanctuary and Lounge areas. In the last few weeks, we have been able to enhance some aspects of the project.
Here are a few new features we’ve been able to include in the plans:
- Remove exterior steps and regrade the covered entrance so that all people can enter through the main front doors.
- Refloor the balcony and carpet the lower narthex to match the rest of the main floor renovation.
- Provide sound enhancements and maintenance for soundboard in the sanctuary
Construction crews are also getting ready to start on the rest of the main floor renovations. Demolition will begin on some areas of the main floor as early as next week. Starting May 3, we will stream worship from the Fireside Room as crews start renovation of the sanctuary.
We invite you to stream a special worship experience on April 26th. Though we are unable to have an in-person groundbreaking and celebration, we want to celebrate all the ways our current sanctuary has served us over the last 50 years – and we need your help to do this. Please send photos of special moments you have had in our sanctuary (weddings, confirmations, baptisms, festival worship services, musicals, etc) over the years and we will put together a video of these moments to share in worship. Send your photos by Wednesday, April 22 to Margaret Dillard at firstname.lastname@example.org to be included in the video.
These are financially uncertain times and many people are facing work slowdowns or layoffs. So, will this current uncertainty impact how and when we do the rest of this project? At this time, we don’t think so. As one committee member stated earlier this week, “we are already standing in the middle of the river. It’s hard to stop the current at this point.” The timing of our construction led to significant savings on contract work and provided a favorable financing package through the ELCA Mission Investment Fund. If we were to wait or change the timeline of the project, the costs would only go up. An additional factor in our favor is that over 1/3 of capital campaign gifts have already been received, which puts us in a good position to continue the project as planned. We recognize that your financial situation may have suddenly changed. If are considering adjusting your pledge to the annual budget or campaign or the timing of your pledge, please contact Tracy Schar email@example.com in our office.
Friends, it is strange to be in the building any day of the week these days. Now more than ever I am reminded that the church is the people called together in worship and sent out in the name of Jesus for the sake of the world. You are deeply missed, and I am eager for us to be singing and serving side by side again. In the meantime, our building – our platform for mission and ministry – is being renewed. Thank you for your ongoing support of Zumbro and the many ways you are going out with the love of Jesus in daily lives, especially now.
