Reopening the Building

As COVID numbers improve and more people are getting vaccinated, we are taking steps to reopen our building. This applies to in-person worship, small to mid-size groups, team meetings, and weddings and funerals.

While it will be great to connect with familiar folks, we expect individuals to observe certain precautions in their activities: masks; social-distancing, hand sanitizers, and limited personal contact. We want to make everyone’s experience as comfortable and safe as possible. Be sure to stay home if you are not feeling well.

On the facilities side of things, we plan to keep our doors open from 9am-4pm Monday through Friday. If you want to schedule a meeting for one of your groups, call Office Manager, Kari MacIver in the church office and she’ll do her best to accommodate you. Coffee and light treats are acceptable, but under one’s mask. For the time being, and out of an abundance of caution, we are limiting our gatherings to only Zumbro groups until June 1.

Here are the plans for our worship life:

Beginning Sunday, Apr. 11 we will have 8:30am worship in the sanctuary.
We will continue to stream and be on the radio as well.
Beginning Sunday, Apr. 11 we will resume Dinka worship at 3pm, only now they will be meeting in the sanctuary.
Beginning Wednesday, Apr. 14 we will gather at 6:15pm in the Zumbro parking lot for Tailgate Church.

Note that advance reservation is required for the 8:30am service. No reservations are needed for the two additional services.

To reserve a spot at Sunday worship, register at www.zumbrolutheran.org beginning Monday, Apr. 5.
If you are not able to register online, call 507-288-2649 and your name will be added to the list.  Registrations will be received a week in advance, beginning on Monday morning at 9am.  As we resume our worship life, we are limiting the number to 100, which includes worship leaders.

Registrants will be added to the list on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you’ve had a chance to worship once, and would like to return, we ask only that you wait till later in the week (Wed. or Thurs.) to register for the following Sunday. We want to give everyone a chance.

We’re still working out the details, but these are some of the plans for worship so far:
Bulletins will be available, but much of the worship can be followed on the screens.
We’ll set up fewer rows of chairs, and ask participants to space themselves at least three chairs away from other participants (or family units).
We will serve communion. If people are not comfortable receiving communion, we will have a pastor available in the chapel for a blessing following worship.
People will be dismissed from worship one row at a time.  If you want to greet other worshippers, we encourage you to connect in the parking lot.
Soft singing will be allowed, but only into one’s mask.
And on a lighter note, since the seating is new, all previous seating arrangements no longer apply.

We are excited to be opening up again. It’s been a long wait. If you’re feeling healthy and strong, we hope to see you soon. When it comes to worship, it’s hard to anticipate what the demand will be. Please know that, if the demand is high, we will consider adding a second service on Sunday at 10:30am as soon as possible. We want you here!

In the strong name of Jesus,

Pastor Vern Christopherson
